Daring to Dream: Our visit to the Tramway Museum in Ferny Grove

Brisbane has a little known historic gem thanks to some smart thinking folk back in the late 60's when Clem Jones got rid of the trams. It is a place of child-like joy that brings smiles to all ages.

The Tramway Museum on Tramway Street in Ferny Grove is a great place to dream big about public transport in South East Queensland!

We say 'blue sky thinking" shouldn't be just for big wigs and corporate types. It should be for all of us!

Why shouldn't we say bring back the trams?

Thanks to support from the Brisbane City Council the Tramway Museum is able to keep rolling.

We wish they had saved the trams!

An unmissable photo opportunity.

Look at the state of zone 1!

This is an updated version with some corrections 09/09/12. Our apologies to anyone living in the zone 1 part of Kangaroo Point.

We rode the boundaries of Zone 1 on our push bikes in order to plot out it's true shape (a bunyip?). Please take the time to observe that it is in no way circular as indicated on the Translink maps. We have discovered that the shifting of zones has occurred all over the Brisbane Metro area.

The new commuter cap does nothing for the poor!

Tomorrow at 10am I will catch 40 buses in a row in off-peak, zone one, to take advantage of the new "go 10 and then go free" fare cap. For 35 bucks I will have unlimited travel around SEQ for 6.5 days or I can sell it to a backpacker for a small profit!
Why 40 buses? Because the go-card only allows 3 transfers and therefore maximum 4 trips per journey. This is a huge impediment to economically and geographically disadvantaged people but an advantage for me in exploiting this new and unfair cap as I will be easily able to complete journeys between Mater Hill and The Cultural Centre.
Either way I will aim to demonstrate how this new cap favours commuters over the economically disadvantaged who are being shafted by Translink and the Queensland government.
